2 Ways to Give Back to Blaine

Posted on Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 at 11:22am.

April is National Volunteer Month and we’ve found two organizations that can really use your help.

Achieve Services

This is an organization that is near and dear to the hearts of every member of the Kris Lindahl Team. We utilize their services in our marketing efforts and couldn’t be happier with them.

Achieve Services is, in their words, “a day training and habilitation program serving adults with developmental disabilities.”

Right now, Achieve is seeking eBay Store Assistants. These volunteers will take photos and enter the items’ descriptions into a spreadsheet for the organization’s eBay store. It will only take a few days every month, but exact times are quite flexible.

They are asking for volunteers who know how to use a camera, have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and read small print.

If you’d like to learn more, or to volunteer, contact Alex Carlson at (763) 717-7801 or email him at acarlson@achieveservices.org.

Alexandra House

Blaine’s Alexandra House, established in 1977, aims to “empower victims of domestic and sexual violence, and inspire social change, through education, support and advocacy.” Right now, they can use your help.

They are seeking volunteers to fill the following positions:

Shelter Advocate: assist with the organization’s 24-hour help line and work with residents of the shelter to meet their needs. Females only, age 18 or older.

On-Call Hospital Advocate: this volunteer will work with both law enforcement and healthcare providers to provide support to victims of domestic or sexual abuse. You will work onsite at Mercy and Unity Hospital.  They will consider only female applicants, age 18 or older, living within 30 minutes of Mercy and Unity Hospital.

Childcare Provider: care for the young residents of the shelter, planning activities and more. All genders are considered for this position but you must be 18 years of age or older.

Kitchen Volunteer: help prepare and serve meals and snacks to the shelter’s residents. All genders considered, age 18 or older.

Alexandra House provides training for all volunteer positions. Learn more about how you can help by calling 763-780-2332.
