If you’re considering relocating to Blaine, MN, you’re not alone. Blaine has added almost 12,000 new residents in the past decade and continues to grow in population.

Why are people flocking to Blaine? Aside from the fact that this medium-sized city is located within 30 minutes of the Twin Cities, it offers excellent schools, amazing recreational opportunities and manages to maintain a small-town atmosphere.

Blaine Schools

Minnesota offers parents an open enrollment opportunity. What this means is that your children aren’t locked into attending a particular school due to its proximity to where you live. Many parents choose to send their children to schools closer to their work, to make drop off and pickup more convenient.

That said, the city

Renovating is an opportunity to flex your DIY muscle, but not every project is worth the hassle. Often, you do-it-yourself to save money or time. However, with some projects, you may end up spending more of both. Here are a few kitchen projects you should hire a professional for.

Installing a Sink

There's quite a bit that goes into installing a sink and if you've never done it, you may want to hire a professional. Whether it's a top-mount, pedestal or under mount sink, it might just be more of a hassle than you should take on.

If the sink isn't placed correctly, it could leak or cause larger issues down the road. Make sure you use a professional if you don't have adequate experience with installing a sink.

A new pub has opened in the Spring Lake Park called Laddie Lake Pub. This pub started with a soft opening on New Year's Eve and now is fully operational.

The pub is located in the former Nicklow's Cafe and Bar location at 8466 Highway 65 NE. It's a bit similar to the former cafe and bar, but not quite the same.

The menu still has a Mediterranean flare, but it's not quite the same. Laddie Lake Pub is owned by a distant cousin of the Nicklow brothers, Constantine Pergakis. Many of the old regulars are already becoming regular at the new pub.

Opening Within a Year of Closing

Nicklow's Cafe and Bar closed last year in January and Spring Lake Park purchased the building. The city leased the building to PNN Cafe on September 29th, 2014. However,

Mortgage - Image Credit: http://pixabay.com/en/users/AlexanderStein-45237/

Taking out a 30-year mortgage may seem like quite the burden. However, it may also be the only way you can get a payment low enough to afford.

Just because you choose a 30-year mortgage doesn't mean you have to take all 30 years to pay it back. Maybe you received a raise, paid off some debts or have another source of income and you'd like to pay more on your mortgage. Here are a few ways you can pay off your mortgage in less time.

Pay Biweekly

When you pay your mortgage biweekly instead of monthly, you actually make 26 payments instead of 12. Even if these are just half your normal mortgage payment you are making 13 full mortgage payments every year. That extra payment can add up over the years and you can actually cut about 4 to 5 years off

Last week we took a look at low-cost options in three Blaine neighborhoods and, as promised, today we’ll peek at the top of the price range. One thing is certain – homebuyers get a lot more home for their money in Blaine than most of our neighboring cities.

It should come as no surprise that the most expensive listings in Blaine are all located at The Lakes, but there are other neighborhoods in Blaine that offer high-end homes. The most expensive is my listing on Tournament Player’s Circle, so we’ll start there.

This is one amazing home. It features six bedrooms and five bathrooms in 6,138 square feet of living space and sits on over a quarter of an acre of prime Lakes land.

The home was custom built in 2001 and the attention to

A tight budget shouldn’t keep you from buying a home in Blaine. The key is to keep your expectations realistic. Let’s face it, you won’t find an estate for less than $125,000 anywhere in the country, let alone in Minnesota.

Don’t let fixer homes scare you away, either. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) offers guaranteed loans that allow borrowers to finance both the purchase of a house and the cost of its rehabilitation. The rehab costs are rolled into the loan so that you have a single mortgage payment each month. It’s an amazing program that I’m happy to discuss further with you.

Another way to get the home you want is to build it.

The current Blaine real estate market has plenty of low-priced properties on the market from which to
