5 Can’t Miss August 2015 Events

Posted on Monday, August 10th, 2015 at 8:11am.

There’s lots of fun summertime stuff going on this month in Anoka County and beyond. Check out the five we’ve picked out for you.

Anoka Classic Car Show

Every Saturday throughout the month of August you can visit the Anoka Classic Car Show, open from 5 p.m. until dusk. Aside from some pretty amazing classic cars, you can attend the swap meet and enjoy food and music. Entrance to the car show is at 4th Avenue and Van Buren in Anoka and admission for spectators is free. You can learn more about the event at anokaclassiccarshow.org.

Movies in the Park in Lino Lakes

Enjoy the season’s final Movie in the Park! Bring a blanket, lawn chairs, refreshments and the kids for a dusk showing of Walt Disney’s “Up.” Originally released in 2009, “Up” features the voices of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, Delroy Lindo and others in a rollicking fun adventure. Rated PG, the movie will be shown on August 14 and it runs 1 hour and 29 minutes.

Lino Lakes Blue Heron Days

Everybody loves a parade, right? The Blue Heron Days parade is a crowd pleaser and this year it takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15. It starts at Target and heads down Lake Drive, ending up just before Main Street. The night before, however, you’re invited to show off your moves at the street dance at Millers on Main. Other events, taking place in Lino Park from the 14th until the 16th, include the picnic, the YMCA Splash and Dash, a petting zoo, the Blue Out 5k Fun Run and more. Get details at www.blueherondays.org.

Mounds View Festival in the Park

Mounds View's annual celebration is set to take place on Saturday, August 22 with an 8 a.m. 5K Fun Run and Family Walk to kick it off. Events at City Hall Park this year include a K9 demo, car show, games, Karaoke, crafts booth, lots of food, a beer tent and live music.

Minnesota State Fair

This is the biggie folks ― the State Fair with so much to do it’s doubtful one day is sufficient. Lucky for us, the fair runs from August 27 until September 7. A trip through the State Fair Gardens, a visit to the art and sculpture tour, the amazing attractions, food, animals and, of course, the midway are just the start of a fun day at the fair. August music headliners include the Foo Fighters on August 22 and Alan Jackson on the 30th. You can find everything you need to know about the 2015 Minnesota State Fair by visiting mnstatefair.org.
