I’m hoping my friends, clients and colleagues will join me in supporting Bands against Cancer this weekend in Blaine. I’ll be donating $2 for every ticket sold and an iPod to be given away at the event so I’m hoping for a large turnout.
If you aren’t familiar with this annual event, I’ll take a minute here to describe it. First and foremost, it’s a charitable event, to raise money for Minnesota Angel Foundation. If you’re a Facebook friend you know I’ve given to this group in the past through my “Price that Listing” contest.
This is a group of people that actually runs two programs within the organization. Both of them assist adults living with cancer and their families to get control over their lives when their lives are in an utter state of turmoil and uncertainty.
The first program provides emergency financial assistance for the basics, such as mortgage or rent payments, food, gas, and utilities. The second program, Facing Cancer Together, provides support and education for the families.
This is the third year that Bands against Cancer is holding this fundraiser. It features live music performances as well as stuff for the kids, such as face painting and faux tattoos. There will be Angel Foundation booths set up to provide info about their group and about cancer.
The brainchild of Chris Nguyen, owner of NguyenDustries, he tells ABC Newspapers that it came about when his father passed away, an event that laid “the foundation of our inspiration to aspire to help others in need.” Nguyen, a 2013 Spring Lake Park High School graduate, has a lot of help with the events, from friends to family members.
Bands against Cancer starts this Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Town Square Park, 10802 Town Square Dr. NE, in Blaine. Tickets are $7 at the gate. It’s an outdoor event so bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on.
I hope you’ll plan on attending and that you’ll bring all your friends. It’s such a worthy cause and one that is near and dear to my heart.
