Even though the ground is still frozen, the community gardens in Blaine are already taking registration for this year. There are two community gardens to choose from and the plots are expected to go very quickly.
Chain of Lakes Church Community Garden
One of the gardens is found at the Chain of Lakes Church and provides 15-vy-20-foot plots. They have 32 plots in total and even though only half of them were used in the first season, they expect all the plots to be used this year. The first season the garden got a late start and last year all but five of the plots were reserved.
The garden is found on vacant land near Harpers Street and 125th Avenue. This is the area where the church hopes build a church building one day.
Blaine City Hall Community Garden
The other community garden has been by Blaine City Hall since 2009. This garden has been expanded from 11,600 square feet to 20,000 square feet and has been fully booked every single year since it started.
The plots are 15-by-20-feet and there are a total of 48 plots. Last year, six people were not able to get plots because they were all reserved already. It is possible for this garden to divide plots in half if enough gardeners make the request.
The garden plots for both of the community gardens in Blaine are already booking up fast. The Blaine City Hall garden immediately received reservations from 17 of the gardeners from last year and expects to fill up very fast.
The Blaine City Hall Garden is $64 for Blaine Residents and $54 for those 55 and older. Non Residents can get a plot for $75 and half plots are $40 for residents, $30 for seniors and $50 for non-residents. Reserve your plot at, www.BlaineParks.com for the Blaine City Hall garden.
The Chain of Lakes Church garden charges a flat fee of $50 for the plots. To reserve a plot at the Chain of Lakes Church garden, you can find more information at, www.colpres.org/community-gardens.
