Holiday Buying Season

So, it’ a new home you’re hoping for this holiday season? Since you aren’t likely to find it under the tree this week you’ll need to get out and do some serious shopping. Sure, it’s easier to find a home in spring and summer but buying a home in Blaine during the holidays isn’t impossible.

Competition is low

The winter months in Blaine don’t hold the volume of buyers that you’ll find in the spring and summer markets so you’ll have less competition for the homes that are for sale. Less competition means fewer multiple offer situations as well – more good news. This doesn’t mean, however, that you’ll get an amazing bargain on a home. Studies show that homes sold in the winter sell quicker and typically for more money than those sold during other

When it comes to the housing market, Baby Boomers rule. They are the ones that kept it afloat during the recovery and they are the ones that have fueled the latest boom. Sure, the real estate industry likes to talk “Millennials” all the time, but there’s no getting around the fact that Boomers make up 31 percent of today’s homebuyers and 43 percent of sellers.

If you count yourself among this huge generation and you plan on either buying or selling a home in Blaine, read on for a few things to consider before doing either – or both.

1. Your current home

Whatcha gonna do with it? You have a few choices here. You can rent it out or sell it. If you choose the latter you’ll have additional choices to make. Will you buy the new house first or sell

bargain priced homes in blaine

Looking through the Blaine MLS listings this morning I was astounded that homebuyers in Blaine can actually spend less than $100,000 for a home. That’s definitely cheaper than renting.

If you’re downsizing or this will be your first home and your budget is tight, take a look at the following houses for sale in Blaine.

$99,900

This home is adorable from the outside but the listing agent was a bit stingy with interior photos, so who knows? The interior could be just as charming or it could be a disaster. We haven’t viewed this home yet so I can’t tell you.

Its location however is great. It’s in southwest Blaine, with Westwood Intermediate School 3 minutes (by car) northeast of the home and Northtown Mall 4 minutes to the south.  Technically,

Use our moving truck for free

Did you know that the Kris Lindahl team offers our clients the free use of a moving truck? Indeed we do and it’s the perfect solution for the DIY mover. If, on the other hand, you’ll be hiring movers, we’ve put together this handy list of some of the questions you should ask moving companies before signing the contract.

1. Ask for their DOT Number

DOT stands for Department of Transportation, the licensing agency for all moving companies. You’ll find a database of DOT numbers on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s website, here. Enter the company’s DOT number to check its license status.

2. Is the company insured?

Sadly, many Minnesota moving companies don’t carry insurance. Crazy, right? You can verify insurance coverage on

Typically, when the number of home sales increases and the number of new listings decreases, our first thought is that prices must surely have gone up. I mean, it’s supply and demand at work and clearly, if fewer homes are on the market and those that are on the market sell quickly, supply is outpacing demand.

Oddly, the Blaine housing market is bucking conventional wisdom.

“So, Kris, is it still a seller’s market?”

It’s a question I hear on a daily basis and the answer is the same this month as it was last month: Yes, it is.

While the benefits of paying off your mortgage early seem obvious, financial experts are divided on whether it’s a smart financial move. Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of paying off your mortgage early.

Pros

  • You’ll save all that interest that you would otherwise have owed. Keep in mind, however, that this can be both a curse and a blessing, since this interest provides you with a huge tax deduction.
  • Peace of mind. What’s not to like about not having a monthly house payment? The additional money every month gives many who pay early a feeling of security and freedom.
  •  A reverse mortgage can become a financial fallback for seniors. With a completely paid off home you’ll get more in a reverse mortgage than you would

An interesting aspect of any real estate market is that when more homes are listed for sale yet even more sell, the area’s inventory decreases. That is exactly what we’re seeing in the Blaine real estate market right now and the opposite of what's happening in other markets around the Twin Cities. In fact, Edina is seeing the flip side of Blaine's situation.
