Coon Rapids will be getting a Hope 4 Youth transitional housing facility very soon. The organization is just waiting for the Coon Rapids City Council to give the approval.
A purchase agreement was executed for the old Stage Door Dance building. The building is just waiting on a special use permit. The building is found at 80 Coon Rapids Boulevard.
Plans for the Facility
The facility plans include a 20-bed transitional housing area. This facility will provide a place for those in need to go while transitioning into a better type of housing. The facility plans to have two additional emergency beds and will serve the youth between the ages of 18 and 24.
Those staying at the facility will be able to stay for 18 to 36 months. They will be requires to attend school or work at a job, while staying at the facility.
The plans for a facility have been in the works for a few months. Hope 4 Youth even announced a goal of raising $1 million before the end of 2014. They have actually reached the goal and surpassed it since it was set.
The funds were always planned for some type of transitional facility, but they hadn’t really announced anything until recently. The property they chose is zoned for office use, which means it can be used as a transitional housing facility. However, with a special use permit they can use the property for the transitional facility.
Hope 4 Youth plans to get the application in by July 13th, which will allow the planning commission to hear the plans. The application will go before the council at the August 20th meeting. Annual fundraising is expected to continue to help with the estimated operating costs of between $600K and $700K.
