When Blaine decided to take on the Lexington Athletic Complex it became one of the largest park projects in the area. It's nearly ready and the opening is expected to come in August of 2015.
The open house will be held on August 18th and a ribbon cutting will be a part of it. Speeches will be happening at 6:30pm. Ball fields will not be ready until the spring of 2016, but teams can start using the multipurpose fields in September of 2015.
Other park features will open this fall, as well. The park shelter, which will look much like a barn will open, along with pickleball courts, tennis courts and a playground. There will also be trails weaving throughout the park, which will connect to other trails within nearby neighborhoods. The hockey rink will also be ready this fall.
Plenty of sports will be played at the complex including hockey, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and more. It will also include a park, so residents can just enjoy the area, watch others play or take their kids to enjoy the playground.
The Lexington Athletic Complex will be located near Lochness Park and on the east side of Lexington Avenue. The facility will cover about 38 acres with plenty of fields for all types of sports.
Some residents have already tried out the complex a bit. There are a few scuff marks on the tennis courts and bikes have been spotted running through the area, too. Very soon, everybody will be able to use the facility without worry.
The project costs about $5.25 million and was overseen by the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department. Many are very excited for the complex to finally be open and many residents of Blaine will certainly be taking advantage very soon.
