Taking care of your home makes a huge difference. You can do many preventative things to keep larger issues from happening. Here are a few maintenance tips for your home this fall.
Clean the Fireplace and the Chimney
If you have a fireplace, this is something you will want to do in the fall. You want to make sure your fireplace and chimney are clean for the winters. This will allow you to light a fire and not have to worry about smoke coming into your home due to a clogged chimney or a dirty fireplace.
Check the Furnace
This is also the best time to check the furnace and make sure it's working properly. Change the filter and make sure you're ready to use the furnace when the cold days arrive.
Switch your Ceiling Fans
Since the summer is over, you will want to switch the ceiling fan direction. This will allow you to sue the fans in the winter to redistribute warm air from the ceiling.
Check Your Weather Stripping
If you want to keep the heat in and the cold out, you will want to inspect your weather stripping. If it's worn out, you can save money on energy bills by replacing it with new weather stripping.
Clean the Gutters
The gutters get clogged with leaves, which can cause the snow and water to get stuck. This can cause many issues including water damage. You want to make sure your gutters are not only clean, but also in good condition. Replace any bad gutters and make any repairs necessary during the fall to prevent issues in the winter.
Put down Fall Fertilizers
If you want a great looking lawn next year, the fall is the time to put down certain fertilizers. This will make it much easier to maintain your lawn next year.
Make sure you take care of fall maintenance before it's too late. Winter is very close and you want to make sure you're prepared for the colder days ahead.
